Today’s Weather

Sunny skies Tuesday with a high near 78, though temperatures will slip back to around 76 by afternoon. A north wind of 12 to 16 mph is expected, with gusts reaching 23 mph; tonight clears out with a low around 50.

City Hall

Mohave County held its second public hearing Monday on the planned use of federal Community Development Block Grant funds. The county expects to receive approximately $908,586 in FY 2026 CDBG money through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account. On top of that, the county intends to apply for $500,000 each for FY 2026 and FY 2027 through the State Special Projects account.

Separately, the county issued a 90-day notice in late April to active voters regarding political party ballot selection deadlines ahead of the upcoming primary election cycle. The Mohave County Recorder’s Office says the notice arrived by mail and is official correspondence, not junk mail.

Water Rights

The Arizona Department of Water Resources has filed a Petition for Special Action seeking appellate review of a ruling by Judge Blaney concerning the designation of the Hualapai Valley as a subsequent Irrigation Non-Expansion Area. The filing was noted in a county public notice dated April 23. The dispute centers on groundwater management in the Hualapai Valley Aquifer Basin, and the legal process is ongoing.

Wildlife and Outdoors

The BLM Kingman Field Office manages the largest wild burro population in the country, concentrated in the Black Mountains west of Kingman. The field office oversees 2.4 million acres of public land across northwestern Arizona, including nine wilderness areas and 12 Areas of Critical Environmental Concern. The Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area, an 11,300-acre trail system on the edge of town, and Wild Cow Springs Campground up in the Hualapai Mountains both remain open; the higher elevation at Wild Cow Springs tends to run cooler than valley temperatures this time of year. Current fire restriction status for the Colorado River District is available through the BLM Kingman Field Office.
