Regional Health Officials Confirm Fatal Case of Hantavirus
The Mohave County Department of Public Health confirmed the area’s first local fatality linked to the Sin Nombre strain of hantavirus. Authorities emphasized that this respiratory infection does not spread from person to person. However, they are urging residents to take heavy precautions when clearing out dry vegetation, sheds, or areas showing signs of rodent activity.

Nightly Delays Begin at Key Intersection for Drainage Upgrades
Commuters should prepare for disruptions at the crossroads of Gordon Drive and Bank Street. The city has launched a nighttime infrastructure project to install a new drainage system, reducing the intersection to a single lane between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM. This traffic configuration will remain active through July 14, 2026, with flaggers on-site to direct drivers.

Downtown Sanitation Initiative Replaces Shared Dumpsters
The City of Kingman Solid Waste Department has moved forward with its modernization plan in the historic downtown districts. Crews are actively phasing out the large, 300-gallon communal trash bins previously situated in public alleys. Moving forward, downtown clients are transitioning to individual trash containers to enhance local cleanliness and security.

Seasonal Weed Enforcement Laws Take Effect
Code enforcement divisions are reminding regional landowners to clear properties of excessive weeds and dried flora to mitigate summer wildfire hazards. Local regulations demand that foliage maintains a 7-foot clearance over public walkways and a 15-foot buffer over streets. Neglected properties risk receiving a 30-day compliance notice, followed by potential criminal citations if unaddressed.

Public Safety
Fire restrictions remain in effect countywide. Mohave County enacted the restrictions across all four fire zones in unincorporated areas of the county, citing high temperatures, low humidity, dry vegetation, and sustained winds. The BLM Kingman Field Office, which manages 2.4 million acres of public land in northwestern Arizona, has also posted current fire restriction information for the Colorado River District.

Community Events
The Mohave County Reach Out facility holds its grand opening Wednesday, June 3, at 9:00 a.m. The facility is located at 501 W. Highway 66 in Kingman. Members of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors may be in attendance, according to a notice of attendance the county filed last week.

Also on Wednesday, the Mohave County Local Emergency Planning Committee meets at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Havasu City Fire Department Station 2, 2065 Kiowa Blvd., Lake Havasu City. The meeting is open to the public.

City Hall

The Mohave County Recorder’s Office is reminding voters of upcoming deadlines ahead of the July 21, 2026, Primary Election. Voters who haven’t selected a political party ballot should be aware that the county issued a 90-day notice in late April laying out the requirements. Details are available through the Recorder’s Office.

On the federal funding side, Mohave County expects to receive $908,586 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for fiscal year 2026 through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account. The county also intends to apply for $500,000 each for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the State Special Projects account. A second public hearing on use of those CDBG funds was held in May.

Water Rights

The Arizona Department of Water Resources has filed a Petition for Special Action seeking review of a judge’s decision related to the designation of the Hualapai Valley subsequent Irrigation Non-Expansion Area. The case involves the Hualapai Valley Aquifer Basin and remains in the courts.
