A 26-year-old Kingman resident was killed Thursday night following a high-speed encounter with law enforcement that culminated in a violent crash on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
Chronology of the Incident
The events began at approximately 7:00 p.m. on February 12, 2026, when a Kingman Police Department (KPD) officer observed a Suzuki motorcycle traveling north on Stockton Hill Road at an “extremely high rate of speed” near the 1900 block.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the 3100 block by activating emergency lights. According to investigators, the rider looked back at the officer but refused to pull over, accelerating further as he continued north.
Department Policy and the Crash
Adhering to department safety protocols designed to minimize risk to the public, the KPD officer elected not to engage in a high-speed pursuit and deactivated enforcement equipment.
However, moments later at 7:02 p.m., emergency dispatch received reports of a serious collision in the 3800 block of Stockton Hill Road, near the Kino Avenue intersection. Arriving units confirmed that the motorcycle had slammed into a dark-colored SUV. The 26-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Ongoing Investigation
Because the fatality involved an initial attempt at police intervention, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) has assumed the lead in the investigation to ensure transparency.
The 3800 block of Stockton Hill Road remained closed for several hours on Thursday night while investigators from the KPD and Mohave County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
