Kingman AZ Local News Brief Monday 7-20-2026

Today’s Weather
High near 95 with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. South-southwest winds at 3 to 10 mph. Tonight’s low around 77, with another small storm chance after 5 a.m.

Hobby Lobby and Niu Valley Hawaiian Grill are officially welcoming customers today following a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the City of Kingman and the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce. The grand opening celebration began at 8:30 a.m. at 3140 Stockton Hill Road, with Hobby Lobby opening its doors immediately after at 9:00 a.m. Local economic development officials noted that these new storefronts are key drivers for regional job creation and expanded retail choices.

Referendum Petition Disqualified
The Kingman City Clerk’s Office formally rejected the REF26-001 referendum petition (popularly known as the “Axe the Tax” measure) due to legal non-compliance. Authorities determined that all 51 circulated petition pages and their accompanying 734 signatures were invalid because organizers failed to attach the legal title and full text of the measure during voter circulation. As a strict consequence of Arizona statutory requirements, the submission was logged with zero valid signatures.

City Hall
The Mohave County Board of Supervisors will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, August 3, starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at 700 West Beale Street in Kingman. The agenda includes a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance. Anyone who wants to speak can show up and be heard.

Mohave County Development Services is also warning residents about an email scam circulating under the Planning and Zoning Commission’s name. Fraudulent invoice notices have been sent to people falsely claiming to originate from the department. County officials have not said how many residents were targeted, but they’re asking anyone who receives a suspicious invoice to contact Development Services before acting on it.

Public Safety
Voters head to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21, for the Mohave County Primary Election. In-person early voting ran through July 17, so tomorrow is Election Day. The Mohave County Recorder’s Office has been the main point of contact for voters with questions about polling locations and registration.

Community Events
The Mohave County Board of Supervisors may attend a public dedication of the Scenic Overlook ADA Trail at Coyote Pass on Wednesday, July 29, at 8:30 a.m. The county posted a notice of attendance, as required when board members gather at public events outside official meetings.

Later in the summer, the Kingman Library at 3269 N. Burbank St. will host a “Night at the Library” event on Wednesday, August 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., tied to the America 250 commemoration.
