By | June 3, 2026

Today’s Weather
Sunny with a high near 97. Northeast winds of 2 to 15 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 21 mph through the day.

Infectious Disease Fatality Prompts Health Alert
Regional medical authorities have confirmed that a local resident passed away after contracting the rare, rodent-borne Sin Nombre hantavirus. Because epidemiologists cannot trace the exact origin of exposure, local transmission in the community remains a distinct possibility. Health departments urge the public to use extreme caution, wear protection, and avoid kicking up dust when clearing out areas where wild mice may nest.

Fire Restrictions
Countywide fire restrictions remain in effect across all four fire zones within Mohave County’s unincorporated areas. The county enacted the restrictions last week, citing high temperatures, low humidity, dry vegetation, and sustained winds as the driving conditions behind the decision.

Historic Local Mine Fetches $10 Million
Fueled by a booming domestic demand for technology and manufacturing components, the long-dormant Hackberry Silver Mine has been acquired by Rock Forge LLC for $10 million. Located just outside the city, the operation had been inactive since the 1980s. State officials attribute the major investment to recent federal supply-chain policies prioritizing domestic mineral sourcing.

Federal Gridlock Stalls Airport Expansion Plans
Municipal leaders and state senators are publicly pressing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to release 790 acres of land at the Kingman Airport. Local government plans to convert the territory into a massive industrial park to bring in $250 million in private investment. However, the FAA continues to block the land transfer due to ongoing disputes regarding property appraisals.

Local Utility Rates Spiking As Recycling Program Fails
The Kingman City Council voted to terminate the city’s recycling program while simultaneously hiking utility fees starting this July. Local property owners will see trash collection bills increase by roughly $2 per month, alongside a $1 bump to base water rates.

Late-Night Gridlock Expected On Commuter Corridors
Commuters are being redirected to alternate routes as overnight infrastructure upgrades begin at Gordon Drive and Bank Street. Lane restrictions and flagger operations will be active every night from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM through July 14 to install vital new drainage lines.

County Launches New Social Services Hub
The Mohave County Board of Supervisors is hosting a morning grand opening for its new Reach Out Facility located right on Historic Highway 66. The center is designed to offer consolidated health and community resources. Concurrently, county leadership has enacted strict fire bans for all unincorporated boundaries due to high winds and extreme early-summer wildfire risks.

Community Events
The Mohave County Reach Out Facility holds its grand opening this morning at 9:00 a.m. at 501 W. Highway 66 in Kingman. The Board of Supervisors was noticed that members may attend the event. The Mohave County Local Emergency Planning Committee also meets today at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Havasu City Fire Department Station #2, 2065 Kiowa Blvd., in Lake Havasu City. That meeting is open to the public.

City Hall
With the July 21 Primary Election approaching, the Mohave County Recorder’s Office is reminding voters of upcoming deadlines and available voting options. The office issued a separate 90-day notice in late April about political party ballot selection requirements — voters who haven’t responded may want to check their status before registration deadlines close.

Mohave County is set to receive $908,586 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for fiscal year 2026 through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account. The county also intends to apply for $500,000 under the State Special Projects account for both FY2026 and FY2027.
