Today’s Weather
Mostly sunny Friday with a high near 87. South winds will run 6 to 20 mph with gusts up to 26 mph; tonight stays mostly clear with a low around 60.
Neighborhood Street Upgrades Conclude Phase 4
The City of Kingman Public Works Department is finalizing its Fourth Phase of neighborhood street maintenance today. Street crews have spent the week applying protective chip seals across various residential roads in District 4 to prolong pavement life. Operations run through 7:00 p.m., bringing minor travel delays and local lane closures. Street sweeping trucks will clear the remaining loose gravel next week.
Mandatory Weed Control Measures Enforced
Municipal code enforcement officers are stepping up inspections along major city traffic corridors to ensure compliance with the 2026 Weed Abatement Program. Authorities are mandating that property owners slash overgrown wild vegetation and dried weeds down to under six inches. The city rules aim to reduce fire hazards as summer heat rises, while also clearing blind spots near sidewalks and street signs. Trees overhanging walking paths must clear seven feet, while vehicles require fifteen feet of clearance.
Holiday Closures and Pool Openings Scheduled
In observance of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, Kingman administrative offices will shut down on Monday, May 25. Normal trash collection routes will slide back by one day, and KART public transit services will pause. However, local families can celebrate the official summer launch on Monday as both the Centennial and newly renovated Grandview pools host ribbon-cutting ceremonies and kick off their open swim seasons.
Seatbelt Safety Blitz Underway
The Kingman Police Department is continuing its high-visibility seatbelt compliance campaign through May 31. Financed by a state highway safety grant, the “Click It or Ticket” enforcement period targets unrestrained drivers to lower severe injuries following a recent uptick in major local traffic collisions.
Water Rights
The Arizona Department of Water Resources has filed a Petition for Special Action seeking appellate review of a ruling by Judge Blaney related to the designation of the Hualapai Valley as a subsequent Irrigation Non-Expansion Area. The filing was noted in a late-April Mohave County public notice.
The Hualapai Valley aquifer basin sits northwest of Kingman and has been the subject of competing claims over groundwater use. The outcome of the petition could affect how the basin is managed under state water law going forward.
Around Town
The Mohave County Recorder’s Office sent an official 90-day mailer to active voters in late April regarding political party ballot selection deadlines ahead of the upcoming primary election cycle. Residents who received the notice are asked to review the requirements before the stated deadlines.
The BLM Kingman Field Office, which manages 2.4 million acres of public land in northwestern Arizona, reminds residents that the Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area trail system remains accessible near Kingman. With temperatures climbing toward the upper 80s this week, the agency also notes that Wild Cow Springs Campground in the Hualapai Mountains typically runs cooler than the valley floor.
