County Weeds

Mohave County Development Services told the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 21 they have 375 active junk and weed complaint cases. Many of those complaints cite fire risk. The board voted to put county staff and fire districts on a 90-day report with cleanup options.

Business Pitch

Mohave College’s Small Business Development Center hosted a Moonshot Rural Arizona pitch contest in downtown Kingman this week. Twenty local entrants competed. Mike J. took first place and $750. He advances to the state finals in Phoenix on Oct. 24, where regional winners vie for up to $15,000.

I-40 Work Zone

ADOT’s West Kingman I-40 and US 93 interchange still has daytime and nighttime construction. The posted Mon-through-Thu pattern narrows I-40 to one lane between Stockton Hill Road and Beale Street from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Delays can run about 15 minutes. Crews plan to set final flyover bridge girders in October. A big Route 66 sign now sits on one of the new bridges.

The Board of Supervisors meets Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. Kingman City Council meets the same day at 5 p.m. The county Employee Benefit Trust Board meets Sept. 30 at 9 a.m.
