Fatal Semi-Truck Collision on Interstate 40
A major traffic incident occurred just east of town when two commercial tractor-trailers collided on Interstate 40 near milemarker 60. The Department of Public Safety reported that one semi-truck veered across the center median into oncoming traffic, sparking a head-on collision. One person was killed in the crash. The incident caused severe traffic delays, shutting down the eastbound lanes of the highway for roughly three hours before emergency crews could safely clear the wreckage and reopen the route.
Grieving Family Shares Safety Message After ATV Accident
The parents of a 13-year-old local girl, Myah Dennis, are speaking out following her tragic passing from an all-terrain vehicle accident. The incoming eighth-grader was riding on the back of a 750cc quad driven by her older sister when the vehicle struck a deep rut and rolled over. Despite wearing helmets, the vehicle pinned both girls. High summer heat subsequently caused their cell phones to overheat, delaying contact with emergency services. Following her passing, the teenager’s family shared that her organs were donated to save others and urged families to exercise extreme caution when operating off-road vehicles.
City Council Passes Fire Hydrant & Flood Mitigation Measures
The Kingman City Council finalized several local funding agreements during their latest legislative voting session.
* Fire Safety: Officials voted unanimously to ratify a two-year intergovernmental contract with the Northern Arizona Fire District. This agreement tasks the city with fixing and preserving 701 active local fire hydrants, adding $32,000 annually to the general fund.
* Flood Prevention: Lawmakers cleared the path to seek a federal grant valued at $493,000. If approved by emergency management agencies, the money will fund the Bull Mountain Channel Improvements Project to mitigate regional flood hazards.

Mohave County Development Services is warning residents and contractors about an email scam circulating with fraudulent invoice notices falsely claiming to come from the Planning and Zoning Commission. Anyone who receives a suspicious invoice purportedly from that office is urged to verify it directly with the county before taking any action.

Wildlife and Outdoors
With triple-digit heat settling in for the weekend, the BLM Kingman Field Office notes that Wild Cow Springs Campground in the Hualapai Mountains runs noticeably cooler than valley elevations. The field office manages 2.4 million acres of public land in northwestern Arizona, including the Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area near Kingman, where a trail system is open year-round.
