Kingman AZ Local News Brief Sunday 5-17-2026

Today’s Weather

A High Wind Warning issued by NWS Las Vegas runs through 11:00 a.m. Monday. Expect a high near 81 with south-southwest winds from 5 to 32 mph and gusts up to 46 mph; patchy blowing dust develops after 1 p.m., and tonight’s low drops to around 50 with winds continuing to gust near 45 mph.

Public Safety

The blowing dust this afternoon could reduce visibility along area roadways, particularly on open stretches of Highway 93 and Interstate 40. Drivers should slow down and allow extra following distance if dust moves across the road. The High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 18.

Residents should secure outdoor furniture, canopies, and any loose materials before early afternoon. The combination of sustained winds and high gusts raises the risk of downed branches and scattered debris through tonight.

City Hall

Mohave County will hold a second public hearing Monday, May 18, on the proposed use of federal Community Development Block Grant funds. The county expects to receive approximately $908,586 in FY 2026 CDBG funding through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account and also intends to apply for $500,000 each for FY 2026 and FY 2027 through the State Special Projects account.

The county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee has posted notice of its next public meeting, scheduled for June 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Havasu City Fire Department Station 2, 2065 Kiowa Blvd., Lake Havasu City.
