Overnight Storms
Severe storms and flash flooding hit Mohave County Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeast Mohave County, including Burro Creek, until 9:30 p.m. Some spots saw about 0.75 to 1.00 inch of rain in an hour. Flood warnings also covered parts of Lake Havasu City, Parker Dam, Alamo Lake, and Cattail Cove. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning covered southwest Mohave County, including Lake Havasu City and Parker Dam, until 6:30 p.m. Gusts hit 60 mph. Quarter-size hail was possible.
Opioid Warning
Kingman Police say a synthetic opioid called cychlorphine is moving across the country. The drug is about 10 times stronger than fentanyl and has not shown up in Mohave County yet. The Police Chief says cartels cut it into heroin and meth. Narcan is free at spots around town. Officers carry it too.
Fatal Crashes
A 32-year-old Kingman man died Monday in a head-on crash on Highway 95 near Bullhead City. Arizona DPS says Bullhead police chased a stolen 2013 Hyundai Elantra taken from Kingman overnight. The driver was a 15-year-old from Redlands, California. Five people are in custody, including Kingman juveniles. Several others were hurt.
Two people, ages 65 and 59, died Saturday night in a Lake Havasu boat crash. The boat hit a peninsula, went airborne, and landed in a campsite.
Community Events
Free Technology Recycle Drive is Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the City Public Works Yard, 3700 E. Andy Devine Ave. The City of Kingman and the Mohave College Computer and Console Club are hosting. Drop off old computers, printers, phones, and similar gear. No TVs, car batteries, or freon items.
Walk Away From Drugs hits its 20th year on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Line up at 5:30 p.m. west of El Pollo Loco, at Mother Road Harley-Davidson, or at Firefighters Memorial Park. Groups walk to Centennial Park for food and a drone show. The City and the Kingman Area Meth Coalition put it on. Free. No dogs.
Beale Tunnel
ADOT opened a 239-foot tunnel for northbound Beale Street traffic at the I-40 and US 93 job. The $106 million west Kingman project is about 80 percent done. Final flyover girders are due in October, with full opening set for 2027. Expect delays on Stockton Hill to Beale for a few more months.
