Why does everybody keep saying Kingman is about to run out of water like the taps are going dry next week?
I turned the faucet on at my place today, and again, water came out just fine, cold and normal, and I filled my son’s cup like it was any other day.
I took him by the park after, and people were still watering grass and washing cars like nothing was wrong, which is basically how it looks around town if you actually look.
A friend recently commented to me that she saw another scary post about Kingman running dry and it freaked her out so bad she started saving jugs in the garage, and that is how a lot of this talk goes now.
5-7 years ago, I would never have seen water panic posts everywhere on my phone. Now, they are always there.
These water panic people seem to think we are one summer away from empty pipes, as if the wells under town already quit.
On top of this, you hear about big farm pumping out in the valley north of town, and that part does worry me, because those fields use a ton compared to my house and my neighbors houses.
I drove Stockton Hill today and still saw sprinklers going, still saw the car wash busy, still saw regular life happening, so it does not feel like a desert ghost town running on fumes.
The worst issue is the scare talk. It is everywhere. People act as if Bullhead and Lake Havasu have river water so they are fine, and Kingman is doomed, when our problem is underground wells and how hard they get pumped, not a faucet that dies overnight.
Your scary Facebook post may feel urgent, but I have no idea if you even checked your own tap before sharing it.
For the record, I do care about water here. I live in Kingman, I raise my kid here, I am not pretending the valley can take endless pumping forever and stay the same.
I am not saying ignore it. I am saying Kingman is not out of water today, and these water panic people make it sound like we already are.
It is a daily occurrence now. Every day somebody asks will Kingman run out of water, and every day the answer in my house is still no, not tomorrow, not this month.
These water panic people share it everywhere. At Walmart, at the gas station, in group chats, it does not matter.
My brother said half the people talking about it have never once looked at what actually comes out of a Kingman tap, and that is basically how it feels listening to them.
While I understand people are scared when they hear farms are pumping hard and the ground is not filling back as fast, I do wish these people would stop acting like our water is already gone.

People really do talk like the taps dry up next week
Water talk comes up a lot because we are in the desert and a drought
