Is it just me, or does Kingman finally feel like it is getting some new places worth driving to?
I drove past Stockton Hill Road today, and again, Hobby Lobby was packed, and the Hawaiian grill next to it had people walking in like it was already a regular stop.
I took my son through the Frontier Shopping Plaza lot just to look, and it did not feel like the same dead stretch it used to be with that old 99 Cent Store vibe hanging over everything.
A friend recently commented to me that she can finally get a smoothie on Stockton Hill without leaving town, and that Tropical Smoothie Cafe near Cerbat Lanes has become her little treat after bowling.
5-7 years ago, I would never have seen this many new signs going up around town at once. Now, they are always there.
These new stores seem to think Kingman is worth showing up for now, as if we were not begging for shopping and food options for years.
On top of this, there is a second Starbucks over on Andy Devine that is already open, and Bosa Donuts is in the mix on Stockton Hill too.
I saw the travel center work still going at I-40 and DW Ranch Road today, dirt and building and all, and people keep saying Fatburger and the rest are coming in there once it is done.
The worst issue is how long we sat waiting while other towns got all the chains first. It is not the case for others around us, they got theirs, and we just kept driving to the same few places.
Your new restaurant may be just another opening to you, but I have no idea how starved this town was for something different.
For the record, I do still love the local spots we already have. I am not saying Kingman had nothing, I eat here all the time and I am not above a McDonald’s run with a toddler in the backseat.
I am glad these new stores are coming. I am tired of hearing that nothing ever opens here when you can see Hobby Lobby, Niu Valley Hawaiian Grill, Starbucks, Tropical Smoothie, and Bosa Donuts already in the mix.
It is a daily occurrence now. Every day somebody mentions 7 Brew by the hospital area near Taco Bell, and whether that drive thru coffee stand is open yet or still just talk.
These new stores are popping up everywhere on Stockton Hill. Near the old plaza, by the bowling alley, out toward the freeway side, it does not matter.
My sister said she almost cried when Hobby Lobby opened because she used to order craft stuff online and wait forever, and that is basically how a lot of us felt.
While I understand not every chain is going to land here overnight, I do wish these people building and opening would keep it coming, because we can use more than what we have.

Curious which of these new places actually open on time
Nice to see a few new openings around this fall. We need more.
