The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Kingman area, in effect through 8 p.m. PDT Friday, August 21. Today’s high will be near 100, with a slight chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms after 2 p.m. — precipitation chance sits at 20%. The low tonight drops to around 78.
Public Safety
The Extreme Heat Warning, issued by NWS Las Vegas at 4:57 a.m. today, covers the region through tomorrow evening. South-southwest winds of 6 to 12 mph won’t offer much relief during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and check on neighbors, particularly the elderly.
City Hall
The Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, September 9. A formal notice of that hearing was posted by the county on August 19.
The Mohave County Recorder’s Office is shifting its focus to the November 3, 2026, General Election following the conclusion of the July Primary. The office posted an update on its preparations Tuesday.
Mohave County is also accepting Letters of Interest from individuals, organizations, and historical societies interested in acquiring or relocating a historic general store. The county is looking for qualified parties to help preserve the structure; details are available through the county’s news and notices page.
Around Town
The county has announced that the Flying Fortress Traffic Interchange Grand Opening is set for Monday, October 5, 2026. Board of Supervisors members may attend, according to a notice of attendance posted earlier this month.
The BLM Kingman Field Office, which oversees 2.4 million acres of public land in northwestern Arizona, continues to manage recreation access across the region. The Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area near Kingman and Wild Cow Springs Campground in the Hualapai Mountains remain open. Temperatures at higher elevations in the Hualapais run cooler than valley floors, which may appeal to anyone looking to get outside during the current heat event.
