Kingman AZ Local News Brief Sunday 5-17-2026

Today’s Weather

Sunny skies are expected this afternoon with a high near 84, but south-southwest winds around 20 mph and gusts up to 29 mph will make it feel rough out there. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has a High Wind Warning in effect through 11:00 a.m. Monday — the warning was first issued Saturday morning.

Public Safety

The High Wind Warning covers the Kingman area through Monday. Gusts tonight could still reach 25 mph even as temperatures drop to a low around 57. Residents with outdoor furniture, canopies, or unsecured items should plan accordingly before nightfall.

City Hall

Mohave County is holding a second public hearing Monday, May 18, on how it plans to spend federal Community Development Block Grant money. The county expects to receive approximately $908,586 in FY 2026 CDBG funds through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account. It also intends to apply for $500,000 for both FY 2026 and FY 2027 through the State Special Projects account. The hearing is open to the public.

Looking further ahead, the Mohave County Local Emergency Planning Committee has scheduled its next public meeting for June 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Havasu City Fire Department Station 2, 2065 Kiowa Blvd. in Lake Havasu City.

Water Rights

The Arizona Department of Water Resources has filed a Petition for Special Action seeking review of a judge’s decision involving the designation of the Hualapai Valley subsequent Irrigation Non-Expansion Area. The petition, noted in a Mohave County public notice dated April 23, challenges the ruling by Judge Blaney. The Hualapai Valley aquifer basin has been the subject of ongoing water designation proceedings affecting the Kingman region.

Wildlife and Outdoors

The BLM Kingman Field Office manages the Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area, an 11,300-acre trail system just outside Kingman. With warming temperatures in the valley, the higher-elevation Wild Cow Springs Campground in the Hualapai Mountains offers a cooler option for those looking to get outside this weekend. Wind conditions may affect trail use today given the active High Wind Warning.
